Usage rights

By Collavo editorialUpdated: 2026-06-30

In short

Usage rights govern how a brand may use content created by a creator — where, for how long and to what extent. They cover channels (organic, paid ads), territory, duration and exclusivity. Without clearly agreed rights, a brand cannot freely reuse the content.

What should be specified?

  • Channels: organic only or paid ads (whitelisting/Spark Ads)?
  • Duration: e.g. 3, 6 or 12 months
  • Territory: DACH, EU, worldwide
  • Scope: editing, re-use, other platforms
  • Exclusivity: may the creator post for competitors?

Example

A brand agrees: one TikTok video, organic unlimited, plus 6 months of paid-ad use in the EU, no category exclusivity. To keep advertising it after 6 months, the brand needs an extension.

At Collavo

Collavo captures rights in a structured way in the contract. The rights gate blocks publishing only when the relevant rights are structured — otherwise it shows a warning. So the rights status stays part of the same record.
